Trophy / Harvest Bucks
( 55 to 65% of the bucks will typically fall into this classification ).
Trophy Bucks are classified as being a fully mature buck 4 1/2 years of age or older with
good to outstanding antler development and will generally score high using a typical Boone &
Crocket type scoring system. These bucks generally have 8 to 14 points or better and can average from the 135 to 165 BC with larger non typical bucks in the range of 165 to 170 BC. There are bucks that will make you proud, bucks worthy of being show cased and bucks that will exceed your expectations but, there are never two bucks the same. When it comes down
to the moment,
" a Trophy Buck is in the eyes of the Beholder ".
Management Bucks
( 10 to 15% of the bucks will typically fall into this classification )
Management Bucks are classified as averaging from 3 to 7 years of age and come with a variety of antler configurations such as; miss-matched or uneven antler growth, malformed or deformed antlers, basket rack or maybe a 4, 6, or 8 point buck that's simply slow to mature or may have been injured. In this regard, the combinations and possabilities are endless including an occasional one-of-a-kind freak or cyclopse buck. A management buck can also include a fully mature trophy buck who has lived and developed to his prime and may be in physical decline.
Unclassified Bucks
( 10 to 15% of the bucks will typically fall into this classification )
These type bucks may yield promise but are unclassified due to their young age, slow developement or lack of genetic maturity. These bucks are passed over in favor of better quality deer and
allowed more time and opportunity to develop and mature.
Guidelines
To protect the genetic poole and to maintain a healthy buck to doe ratio
the following conditions must be observed and maintained.
* All buck deer harvested must have an inside spread of 13" or greater.
* Harvested deer must be an approximate age of 3 years old or greater.
* Young, Immature and Unclassified Bucks may NOT be harvested.
* Doe Deer accompained by Yearlings or Fawns may NOT be harvested.
* Yearling or Fawn Deer may NOT be harvested.
